Day 48 Vancouver Thursday 4th June 2015
by Chris
Waffles for breakfast while much conversation about a decision that Emily was making about college. Then the mandatory dog walk for Jesse this time a place near the airport. Not only is the beach paw marked but there are various gangs of dogs being herded by dog walkers.
The success of the herding is variable with various dogs demonstrating auto humping reflex and some multiple auto poop reflex (with no poop)-a little bit disturbing but funny to watch. The call of the day has to be the woman who said ‘come here Cleo my mini ridgeback” and “no mounting” to her larger dog–I am sure I was meant to be impressed.
Train into Yaletown. As we emerged from the subway a poster informed us Farmers Market Thursday 2pm til 4pm. 2.30pm lets have a look. Studied the map carefully and finally turned in the direction we agreed – there about 5 steps away was the Farmers Market.
Wound our way through from Yaletown and on to Gastown. Passing the incredible Library building. Stumbled into a very ch-chi hipster coffee place where we had the best coffee so far-just like Melbourne.
Then simply walked around Gastown.
Visited an indigenous art gallery where the young salesperson described her upcoming kayak trip through Gwaii Haanas.
Waited for the famous Gastown steam clock to do its thing- it didn’t- so we listened to a homeless guy’s story of his illness and fight for welfare: as always reinforcing that the safety net does not always catch the people it should.
A return dinner visit to our favourite East is East -again great service, great menu structure and great food with passable entertainment. The format is that you can choose a banquet of four small dishes but then you can have as many plates of the other small dishes that you want. Suffice it to say we rolled out of there with no need to eat for the next week!!
