The Train to Dunhuang fromĀ  X’ian Day 6 05 May 2019

Said farewell to lovely staff at the Hangtan Inn Hostel after breakfast and headed to the bus to get to the station.Made it! Mel thought we were heading in the wrong direction-but I had done a reccy the day before!

Navigated the giant Xian station and boarded the train to Dunhuang.

Our initial travelling companions on the train were a six year old and her.Various other people came and went during the night as the train lurched westwards, first through jagged mountains and finally onto an endless plain of red dust.Looked familiar!

We ventured into the dining car and were presented with a Chinese character menu no pictures!! No one spoke English.Armed with an app I started the tortuous translation process which gave up half way through and asked for a subscription :-).One of the guards helped out and we got our meal.

We arrived in Dunhuang and met by our local guide Lily-super efficient.
