The Journey from Stockholm to Moja

The ferry island map for the central archipelago(click to expand)-You can see the multiple islands with our destination Möja being on the right of the map. Note that there are equally complicated maps for the southern and northern parts of the archipelago.

After a night in the centre of Stockholm at the hipster heaven Hobo hotel we walked down to the docks to start our journey through just a few of the thirty thousand islands of the archipelago. Our destination is a tiny cabin on the island of Möja. We had chosen the island because Möja was a fair way out  and we were able to see how numerous the islands were are as we threaded our  way between them.

Some are uninhabited but most have a variety of buildings ranging from apartments with their own marinas, large houses dominating a patch of green or tiny houses hiding in the forests that run down to the waters edge.

Leaving Stockholm passing the Vasa museum-the Vasa is a reconstructed seventeenth century galleon that was brought to the surface 300 years after it sank.

Ferry traffic in Stockholm with the statue “God,our father” on the rainbow by Carl Milles. Unfortunately the fountain beneath his feet was not working that day

Vaxholm a popular island destination-that provide access to the fort just offshore.

My favourite- an island off an island.

Once we arrived on Möja it was a short 15 minute walk till we found our little cabin. Situated near the “village” of Norrsundshage, the cabin is in a field near the house where the owner Mats lives. Tiny but comfortable and a lovely place just to relax.

After dropping our bags we headed to one of the two supermarkets on the island and after a 3km walk we got food supplies, bikes and  had a beer before heading back to our cosy little cabin.
