Ljubljana, Slovenia. Days 187 to 189. October 15 16 17 2019.
15th October
A ‘long and winding road’ down the mountain from Velika Planina , which made us very happy to have been offered a lift and not the planned walk. The road would have been longer and winding, and the walking track a little treacherous and difficult to find. Halfway down the driver discovered she had the key to another vehicle still on the mountain – back up we went.
Kamnik for Lunch – after asking for recommendations at the Tourist Info and finding neither he nor we were very excited by anything. Wandered and found a restaurant by the river. As we found a table we also found a good recommendation – the people who had driven us down the mountain were already enjoying lunch there.
After lunch we drove on – reaching Ljubljana we dropped car back with a slight hiccup navigating through the city and a quirky Google to find the way in to the car hire spot. Tetchy times soon relieved as with a sigh of relief (as always) when the car was returned in one piece.
Managed to find the Pub – where we were meeting our host for our Airbnb – a lot easier than the car hire. After a beer or two and wonderful chat we were introduced to our lovely home in a Soviet style block with a warm and quaint apartment on an upper floor.
Too good to leave so we shopped at a local supermarket and had dinner in.
16th October
Treated ourselves to lunch at a restaurant highly recommended by our host and a lot of other people. Jakob Franc restaurant was traditional, pork based and delicious. Chris – Pork with cheese dumplings! Me – Roast Pork. Matched wines recommended by the waiter. A wonderful meal interrupted only by a woman at the next table who had a mobile phone loudly ringing with calls and messages throughout the meal.
No dinner required
Other than the spectacular lunch it was a catch up day. Both very happy in our new house. A time for washing body and clothing. A beard trim sitting on the balcony. An Internet catchup frenzy.
A lovely dinner of fresh fish at Vino Ribo with a delightful and very helpful waitress.
17th
In brief – Wandered without intent in afternoon. Lousy lunch on riverside. Dinner at home and packing for our next adventure.
