Day 97 4th August
We leave our friends early Sunday and head for the station to go to Montpellier via Brussels and Paris. I refer to the wonderful website the “The Man in Seat 61” for guidance on how to navigate the transfer in Paris from one major station to another. This site has the best information on train travel anywhere in the world. In this case, there was a video showing how to transit the stations. This enabled me to stroll on to platform forty-four as though I had been doing it all my life.
We arrive in Montpellier late afternoon and met our lovely friends Kerri and Dennis. We used the tram to head into town and wander around the city centre. We find it difficult to get into a restaurant settle for a mediocre meal and head back to our hotel. Mediocre also describes our hotel which had a series of idiosyncrasies which became annoying as the week went on.
On Monday we started our Kerri Dennis and I started our language course. The start was a bit chaotic and in retrospect, we think that the curriculum was not really what we were looking for. But the exposure was worth it and in my case, I found the teacher supportive.
Mel has done a more complete view of our experiences in a separate post on Montpellier.
