Mt Ushba from our hotel in Becho

Day 57 05 July Kutaisi to Becho via Okatse Canyon

Yes I am afraid of heights and today that fear was unexpectedly tested by walking along a grid walkway with the Okatse canyon thousands of meters below me (maybe an exaggeration). We had left Katusi this morning and after a testing four wheel drive we arrived at this walkway which is set into the cliff bordering the canyon. I must admit ,although a section of it was quite harrowing ,that it was an amazing thing to do and it is a brilliant piece of engineering.

The walkway of terror-note I am holding on with both hands

Gazing down into the canyon and the rock pools down there we were told about the Dadiani family that had ruled here in Western Georgia in the 19th century had used this area for bathing. No longer allowed today.

The Enguri Dam

After driving out again we headed north west into the mountains, winding mountain roads and stunning scenery. We went via the Enguri dam (noted as the third largest in the world but disputed when checking) before continuing onto Becho a village set in a stunning valley below Mount Ushba.
