16th April
After yesterday’s hike we claimed a rest day.Fortunately our guide was agreeable.Said goodbye to our young German friends and took time out.
After lunch we went on a nature walk around the lodge.

We met up with Dane again our happy guide. After breakfast we headed out on a short drive to the trailhead which is on the land of a five star hotel.Interesting to compare with where we are staying and understand why we choose to travel the way we do.
A tough climb and then an undulating ramble to two painting sites.
The paintings range from 2000 years to 200 years old. They are tucked into overhangs and feature elands and people and mythical creatures.Theories range from simply recording hunting scenes to describing altered mental states.Because of the fact that they are difficult to get to and you have to have a certified guide they have no railings or impediment to viewing-amazing experience. All up we walked 16kms well worth it.
Two other walkers were young Irish women who are intending to go up the road to Lesotho. This is the same road we went up on Sunday. They are doing it in a 2WD and didn’t really know much about it.Dane had his doubts but was reticent about mansplaining.
Got back and said good bye to Dane -great guy passionate about his topic and looked after us well.
