Up early and breakfast before meeting with our guide and driver Dane.A pleasant chap and extremely competent driver he wrestled the Land Rover up some of the worst piece of “road” I have ever been on.We travelled down the length of a valley with beautiful sandstone cliffs on either side then climbed on a zig zag road to the SA border post where we left SA until 8km later we entered into Lesotho. On that side the road turns into beautiful smooth tarmac courtesy of the Chinese.Literally metres over the border we dump the 4WD and start walking towards a summit to peer down into Sth Africa. After a strenuous hike however we decide to abandon the summit have lunch and sit in the sun.Our philosophy of “Scenery not Summits” being paramount!
While not making the Summit on return the mist cleared and we looked down into South Africa along an escarpment.Breathtaking!
Ended up at the highest pub in Africa still on the Lesotho side.
Harrowing trip down and I was in the front seat on the cliff side.
Had dinner with our new friends from cologne Jil and Marcel- Jil’s birthday celebrated with a suav.blanc.
