Halifax – Canada Day 90 & 91 – 17th and 18th July 2015
The final day of our final tour. Our final day on and off the bus. Our final day down the back of the bus with Carroll and Joanne. Our final day with Chris and Carroll comedically sparring. Somethings I will miss.
We leave New Brunswick behind and head back to Halifax.
The lunch stop was at a complex with a market and food hall. In amongst large displays of enticing kitchen gadgets we bought ourselves a tiny souveneir: a measure spoon with holes in the side to remove leaves from herb branches! A must have!!
Once back in Halifax we are off to explore the grounds of the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. Completed in 1856, it is the fourth fort to occupy a prime spot on the hill overlooking Halifax Harbour. We have a young man, in the uniform of the time, take us around and describe the role The Citadel has played in the development of Halifax, and of the daily life of soldiers at the time.
After our tour we spent our free time in the exhibition of the history of wars until I felt sick and sad at it all.
Had to race off from the Citadel to a final appointment with the Dentist. Jonathon painstakingly adjusted the crown and even gave me a cookie to test the surface!
Back in time to change and head to the farewell dinner a much more sedate affair than our last tour.
A very funny conversation ensued about the animal I had seen crossing the road in Skidegate.
Both Ruth and I had done internet searches and Ruth came armed with photos, suggesting that the animal grew bigger with each telling. In the end we finally agreed it was a River Otter.
Adjourned to the bar for a final gathering and said our goodbyes planning a sleep-in before a wander around Halifax.
An unexpected treat was to come across Atlantic News a magazine “corner shop”. Spent quite a time browsing, reminding ourselves we could not carry too much more with us. I succumbed to a magazine on the many aspects of Memory.
