Day 43 Gwaii Haanas Saturday 30th May 2015

Blog43 1 back to moresbyWho wants to talk about today – no-one is happy. I found a lump in my throat as we said goodbye on the boat. Such a contrast to my initial feelings on day 1.

Now I could just keep going.

Back at Moresby landing we swapped over – Ryan bringing us in and Barrett (co-worker) going out on a Prawn mission.

After practicing the call all week Chris finally got his chance. On the logging road out Ryan allowed Chris to call
“Passenger vehicle – 5 (km marker) – Moresby Main Rd – Loaded”

Blog43 5 ferryOnce back in Queen Charlotte City Ryan was taking Rosie and James to his friends who had a freezer to store their Halibut. I asked if we could go with them as Ryan said the owners were fantastic and would willingly give a tour.

Nicknamed Hippy Hill we were given a quick tour by the wonderful owner ‘Donnette’ whose name we did not agree on later! I believe she was one mentioned in The Gumboot Girls  and whose story is told in an article The Farrells – George and Donette.

The property was a mass of self built dwellings with recycled materials. One a three storey tower, another a “solarium” with glass sliding doors forming the roof and carpet over dirt floor inside where a jig saw table was set up.

Final goodbye and it was all over.

Prime focus on return to Premier Creek was a shower and laundering of every stitch of clothing we had taken.

In the unpacking process discovered I had left my water shoes – no way to retrieve and disappointed as I had steamed them into a good foot shape! Karma for suggesting to the team that Chris would leave something – oops!
