Day 10. Ucluelet to Nanaimo. Monday 27 April 2015
He Tin Kis Lodge and another difficult departure. Another discussion Stay or Go. Reluctantly we went
A morning that reminded you of the maritime history of the region. Heavy mist and through hit a foghorn answered by a Channel bell in the distance –eerie and sad.
Close by our lodge was a piece of the Wild Pacific Trail. A trail built through the energy of one man Oyster Jim (see 26th April). Well made path looping around the lighthouse.
A pre-brekky banana and rugged up we set off. The walk went from cosy quiet forest to wild and woolly sea – on an equally wild and woolly day. The foghorn getting louder as the mist deepened.
At every opportunity the friendliness of Canadians is made more apparent– met a group at one of the lookouts and next minute we all chatting like old friends.
After the walk headed to the Blue Room Bistro for brunch. Serves to feet Goliath as always but finally a place where you could opt for a smaller version. And also a latte with some guts.
After sustenance left Ucluelet for Nanaimo.
Great day where we were absolutely enjoying being happy and enjoying travelling. Pondered life as we drove through the misty lakes and mountains.
On arrival into Nainamo despite nerves on both our parts both Driver and Navigator found our way to our AirBnB and then to Budget with much more ease than imagined.
After dropping car off went in search of a beer. Yes I know a bit of a beer theme but it’s fun. Headed along waterfront but found it was not as easy as we thought. Finally found Carlos O’Bryan with the motto: ‘ Eat Drink Be Irish’.
Chris thinking: Deep questions came to us: “Why is Carlos O’Briens not on ‘Untapped’?” “Why do I have Edamame beans when everyone else has Buffalo wings?” “Why are the staff wearing kilts when the byline is ‘Eat, Drink, Be Irish’?”
Dinner the ubiquitous Mac Cheese heated in our little AirBnB. Spinach added for greens!
