Fuji Lakes – Japan – October 19th 2015
Today saw 19 of us (including 18month old twins) ably organised by our newly coined YC Tours. This organisation involved moving everyone, and all luggage from the various hotels to the Yokohama Bus station – then onto a public bus and out to Fuji Lakes. Or more precisely to the edge of the lake at Fuji Kawaguchiko.
A massive mission well executed with a lot of fun along the way. Our first glimpse of Mount Fuji along the way.
One of the bus stops was near a terrifying looking roller coaster. Yuko explained she had been on it twice and never again. I looked at it and thought not even once for me.
Our new home for 2 nights is the Ryokan Konansou and our first Japanese room – A 6 Tatami room with Futons.
Walking into the room for the first time was a treat – the room door opened and around us was a small foyer with closed Japanese screens on each side with light filtering through the one directly ahead. On opening that screen immediately in front of us was the span of the lake complete with Paddle-O swans dotted across the surface.
At the end of the table was a round box – inside were dainty cups and teapot complete with fresh green tea leaves. In the cupboard were cotton Japanese print Yukatas (a simple Kimono like robe).
Reluctant to leave the beautiful space we lounged around drinking green tea until heading upstairs for a pre-dinner drink with Geoff and Gay.
Dinner was the next sensory and sensational experience.
As we entered our private dining room our places were set in two lines facing each other. Each setting with our own small table, cushion and lush food tray, with a number of small dishes beautifully arrayed on the tray.
Each time we thought it was a feast ended – more food arrived. Finally when not another mouthful could be swallowed we struggled back to our room.
Despite my nervousness I decided now was a good a time as any for my first public onsen (bath). See next post.
